Modulo 4: Introduction Assessments and AI in English Language Teaching

Module 4 was particularly significant because it helped me clarify concepts about assessment that I had previously misunderstood. At first, I thought I knew what terms such as diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment meant, but throughout this module, I realized that my definitions were incomplete or even wrong. This was revealing because, as a teacher, it is essential to use the right type of assessment at the right time.

Another highlight was learning about generic feedback with AI. I discovered how artificial intelligence can support teachers by providing quick, personalized feedback, something that is often difficult when you have many students. However, I also learned that AI should only be used as an assistant. Its suggestions can be useful, but as teachers, we must always supervise, adapt, and verify feedback before giving it to our students.

Overall, Module 4 showed me that assessment is much more than just giving a grade: it's about guiding learning. By combining traditional approaches with AI, I can design strategies that not only save time but also give students the feedback they need to grow.

Module 4: Reflection on Key Concepts

From this module, I learned that AI can be much more than just a tool for creating lessons—it is a powerful partner for assessing student work and giving meaningful feedback. The key ideas that stood out were how to use AI for all three types of assessment: diagnostic, formative, and summative. I discovered apps like

, and

, which make this possible. Even within commonly used platforms like Google Classroom, I found features I hadn’t considered before, such as embedding questions in YouTube videos and using guided practices.

I also realized that Google AI Studio allows the creation of personalized apps to provide feedback on student work, such as essays and written reports, which is excellent for assessment. Learning this showed me that AI can help make my teaching more empathetic and responsive to each student’s individual needs. I was particularly excited to learn that AI can help me create rubrics for essay writing through MagicSchool, something I hadn’t tried before.

These concepts have changed how I view feedback and assessment. Previously, I believed that giving detailed feedback or designing unique practice for each student was almost impossible because of the time it would take. This module showed me that AI can take on much of this work. The idea of an app giving immediate, specific feedback on essays was completely new to me and challenged my old habit of doing all grading myself—a routine I was familiar with as an English Composition teaching assistant. AI can truly be a companion, allowing me to focus on other aspects of teaching while it handles repetitive tasks. Tools like MagicSchool and the

showed me ways to be more efficient without sacrificing quality.

In my future teaching, I plan to use these tools to make assessments and feedback more effective. I will use Quizalize to create quizzes that I can export to Kahoot!
or Booklet, and take advantage of Google Classroom features like Guided Practices and the YouTube Video Tool to make lessons more interactive. For topics that are challenging or for fast finishers, I will use AI to create personalized practice activities in seconds. For students with limited internet access in class, I can assign these activities as homework. I am also excited to explore BRISK Teaching further, as I am still discovering its full potential beyond feedback features. Using these tools will help me make my teaching more creative, dynamic, and engaging.

Modulo 4: Conclusion anda Key Learnings

This module helped me understand that artificial intelligence (AI) is much more than just an educational tool: it can be a true ally in the classroom. I learned how AI can support all types of assessment, including diagnostic, formative, and summative, and how it can provide immediate and personalized feedback. Tools such as MagicSchool, BRISK Teaching, and Quizalize showed me that it is possible to save time without sacrificing the quality of feedback, something that I previously found very difficult.

I also realized how AI can help me create more engaging and interactive lessons. Google Classroom features, such as guided practice and the integration of questions into YouTube videos, along with AI-powered applications, allow me to tailor lessons to individual student needs. For those who struggle or finish their activities quickly, AI can generate personalized practice, making learning more inclusive and effective. This showed me that technology can improve empathy in teaching, allowing me to respond to each student in ways I couldn't before.

Finally, I feel confident in applying these concepts to my future teaching. I plan to use AI to make assessments more efficient, interactive, and meaningful, while always maintaining the essential human connection in education. Exploring these tools has inspired me to be more creative, to focus on strategies that engage all students, and to continually seek ways to improve learning outcomes. Overall, this module provided me with practical knowledge and a new perspective on how AI can transform the way I teach.
